DescriptionDescription: Point of brush in grey and black, grey wash, 274 x 402 mm. Watermark: Fleur-de-lis with the letters LVG. Chain lines: 28 mm. Signed near the right margin, T. Verryk del ad viv, point of brush in black. Inscribed on the verso, in pencil, gezigt het Zuyker Raffineerhuis / tusse het … begspoortje en de Witte drounde (?) poort / buyte Utrecht N:o 33. Numbered in the lower right corner, in pencil, 1879. Another version of the same view is in Utrecht (Het Utrechts Archief, Atlas van’s Gravesloot, no. 38465). There, the trees hide more of the sugar refinery, and the staffage is completely different. A further drawing in the same collection (no. 36445) has no tree in front of the refinery. The inscription on the verso refers to the Witte Vrouwenpoort, the roof of which can be seen to the left of the refinery. [Även inventarienummer NMH Z 12/1948] [Magnusson, Dutch Drawings no. 518]
