DescriptionDescription: Red chalk (counter-proof), 186 x 170 mm. Ruled framing lines in red chalk. Laid down. Inscribed in the lower left corner, in red chalk, A.V.V. Numbered in the lower right corner, in pen and brown ink, 330 (Sparre) and 9. Mark of the Royal Collection (Lugt 1638). Some of the outlines of this counter-proof are strengthened in red chalk. Carl Gustaf Tessin did not recognize the subject matter; in his inventories he referred to it as a “man meditating”, alternating with a “man leaning his head on his hand”.
