DescriptionDescription: Black and white chalk on grey paper, 234 x 188 mm. Freehand framing lines in black chalk are part of the drawing. Brown stains at the upper right. The traces of white chalk are very faint. No watermark. Chain lines: 17–21 mm. Inscribed on the old mount, in pen and brown ink, Salvator Rosa fec (C. G. Tessin). Numbered, in pen and brown ink, 57, and renumbered in pencil, 60. Mark of the Royal Collection (Lugt 1638). The attribution is based on a comparison with the portrait of Potter (entry no. 179), with its fairly broad outlines and soft parallel hatching. This drawing is less detailed, but the paper is also much coarser. [Magnusson, Dutch Drawings no. 181]
