DescriptionDescription: Bouhot has here depicted the old Gothic parish church in Saint-Thibault, located close to his home town of Semur-en-Auxois in Burgundy. It is a slightly absurd reportage image of the situation following the damage from the French Revolution. The arch and roof are caving in, while the priest stands calmly talking to his parishioners. The blue sky and the light filtered through the broken window contribute to the suggestive nature of the image.
