DescriptionDescription: In the Baltic the Danish king Valdemar Atterdag’s ship is on its way to Gotland. The events that followed in which Valdemar’s troops plundered the city have gone down in history as the pillage of Visby. The title of the painting Vision tells us something about how artist Richard Bergh regarded his creation. The painting is a historical fantasy, far removed from any ambition to realistically recreate a historic event that took place in 1361. The gilded sails emphasize the painting’s sense of saga.
