DescriptionDescription: Bouton here depicts parallel events inside St Roch Church in Paris. A mass with confirmation is taking place on the left, while parishioners engage in individual devotions in adjacent areas. The spatial relationships are conveyed through suggestive treatment of light. There is not just one perspective, but several. Unsurprisingly, Bouton together with Louis Daguerre invented the diorama, in which artificial light created an illusion of movement.
