DescriptionDescription: This painting is signed and dated 1687 and is the oldest known self-portrait of a woman in Swedish art history. Amalia von Königsmarck was a noble amateur who had studied under David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl. The portrait shows her painting at an easel. The laurel wreath and all’antica dress indicate that she also appears here as Pictura, a female personification of the art of painting. In all, von Königsmarck produced around half a dozen self-portraits.
