DescriptionDescription: This cravat pin or brooch was made the year after Karl XIV Johan became king. It was probably a gift from the king to a loyal subject. The portrait of the king in profile is based on a relief by Johan Tobias Sergel (1740–1814) from 1811, when Karl Johan was a prince. A brilliant-encircled image of the king was not only a sign of loyalty but also showed that the wearer was in the king’s favour.
