DescriptionDescription: Point of brush in brown, brown wash, oil paint, 257 x 217 mm. The outline of the right arm has been drawn in graphite or chalk, then painted over with white oil paint. Laid down. Mark of J. G. De la Gardie (Lugt 2722a), repeated. Traditionally attributed to Anthony van Dyck, but the style points to Ovens, in particular his compositional drawings of the early 1660s, such as an allegory in the Kunsthalle, Hamburg, a large composition depicting the Batavian conspiracy in Berlin, or a double portrait in Copenhagen.
