DescriptionDescription: When other painters travelled to Jutland to widen their image of Denmark, Libert went east instead, to Bornholm, and the castle at Hammershus became a feature that, like Lundbye’s burial sites, linked the landscape to the nation’s history. This painting was purchased by Christian VIII, which made it one of the works that were involved in an official way in the formation of the image of Denmark as a nation.
