DescriptionDescription: Yet another way of approaching reality was to paint death and illness. Diseases like tuberculosis were a constant threat and several artists succumbed. Death beds and convalescent figures were often used as motifs and were viewed as both documentary and sentimental. Georg Pauli painted this motif in Normandy. The work was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1885. Pauli was one of the leading figures in the progressive opposition to the Academy.
