DescriptionDescription: The artists who travelled to Italy were often drawn to the same motifs. These cypresses at Villa d’Este in Tivoli outside Rome occur frequently. It’s an attractive motif for someone from the North who found the trees quite exotic. Depicting the trees and the effects of the light was also an artistic challenge. Palm succeeds with a technically quite simple painting style to make the viewer believe that he or she experiences the tree in all its parts.
