DescriptionExhibition text: In 1914, Ring and his family settled in Roskilde, where he had a house built with a view of Roskilde Fjord close to Sankt Jørgensbjerg Church and the town’s older buildings. It was here that he found the inspiration for this wintery genre scene, which depicts a pre-industrial reality that is on the verge of disappearing. Ring, who himself grew up in humble conditions in the countryside, portrays the world of his childhood in his paintings with straightforward immediacy.
