DescriptionDescription: Ingres won the Rome Prize in 1801 with his topic of Achilles receiving the envoys of Agamemnon. This is his sketch. To the left is the Greek hero Achilles and next to him is Odysseus. To the right can be seen the delegation from king Agamemnon, trying to persuade Achilles to re-join the fighting Greeks. Ingres used famous antique sculptures as role models for his characters. The piece later belonged to the painter Edgar Degas.
