DescriptionExhibition text: At the end of the 1880s, inspired by the landscape and his encounters with the rural population in the area around Pont-Aven in Brittany, Paul Gauguin developed a decorative style of painting, characterised by bold, rhythmic outlines and flat areas of strong colours. Landscape from Brittany was bought by Swedish artist Richard Bergh in 1892. The painting exerted a decisive influence on the atmospheric national romanticist painting in Sweden during the 1890s.
