DescriptionDescription: During a visit to France, Johan Rohde became acquainted with several leading French artists. He returned to Copenhagen with these impressions and there he became an important source of inspiration for his fellow-artists. His Summer Night at Tønning is a good example of how he transformed reality into a dreamlike idyll – for instance by synthesising the scene, in other words “polishing” each individual element into shape and allowing them to form an effective whole.
