DescriptionDescription: Uno Troili was one of the leading portrait painters of his day, skilfully balancing a detailed realism with an emphasis on purely painterly, tactile qualities. Troili’s early works often have a dark palette, as in this portrait of Anna Lovisa Lagerhjelm. The effect is reinforced by her white dress, which contrasts sharply with the dark background. Lagerhjelm was married to an officer and is an example of the aristocratic and middle-class clientele Troili worked for.
