DescriptionDescription: The female figure is a personification of "The Punishment", in detail corresponding with her description in Cesare Ripa's "Iconologia": she is shown standing on a wheel, her head encircled by a halo, with a rudder by her side. In her right hand is a measuring rod, in her left, a bridle. The attributes signify, on the one hand (rudder; measuring rod), the measuring out of the penalty, "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth", on the other hand (wheel; bridle), the swiftness with which the punishment i carried out.
