DescriptionDescription: Carbon fibre is a strong, heat resistant material commonly used in racing cars and the aerospace industry. Here Carl Cyrén has combined it with glass, knitting a carbon fibre net with varying mesh sizes and then blowing white melted glass through it. The process combines control with randomness. Finally, he has picked up an outer layer of clear glass. The sculpture was blown by Bjørn Friborg at Boda’s The Glass Factory. Carl Cyrén took his Master’s degree at the Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in spring 2016. In his design project Carbon Craft, carbon fibre is taken from its usual contexts in products for cars and sports. Since it is heat resistant, Cyrén began thinking about glass. He borrowed a knitting machine from Smart Textiles at the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås. The Glass Factory helped him with the glass-blowing. Carl Cyrén wants to continue exploring new contexts, and to combine different professions and materials.
