DescriptionDescription: No watermark. Inscribed verso in an 18th century hand in pen and grey ink: No 64. "Carletto Caliari" (struck out) "Lisandrino di Milano". Provenance: M.G. Anckarsvärd ; A Michelson ; K. Michelson ; Acquired by the museum in 1896 This [nr 184, NMH Anck 266 and the next drawing [nr 185, NMH Anck 267] re both of the same, unidentified, saint with clearly recognizable attributes: a cloud, a burning sword, a woman and a sea-shore. The drawings present the theme in two completely different versions, probably suggestions for an altar-piece. Their style is closest to that of Diziani´s late work, where the sweeping lines à la Pellegrini and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo have given way to a manner in which the lines are interrupted more frequently. The similarities in style, format, technique and material with the preceding number suggest that all three sheets are more or less contemporaneous; they may even be parts of a single commission.
