DescriptionDescription: Black and red chalk, pen and brown ink, brown wash, 367 x 425 mm. Ruled framing lines in black ink. Vertical folds across the upper part, vertical tear on the right. Laid down. There is a free, summary sketch in black chalk under the pen drawing. The pen lines are very faint and reinforced in red chalk. Although the red chalk follows the pen contours in most places, the lines are bold and without hesitation, in places also adding to or modifying the original drawing. Most likely the drawing was retouched by the artist himself. Red chalk may have been used so that a counter-proof could be taken. [Magnusson, Dutch Drawings no. 250]
