DescriptionDescription: Laid down. Numbered at upper right in pen and brown ink: 82. preceeded by by a red triangle (Karlberg collection) Provenance (Karlberg Palace) ; Kungliga Biblioteket [Bjurström It. Drawings, cat.no. 227] (Description of NMH 115-117/1866): There is a whole group of drawings- in a rather angular, forceful pen line without wash- most of which show a frieze-like arrangement of figures; they were ascribed to Giambattista until Giorgio Vigni pointed out in 1943 that they can be grouped around a drawing in Trieste that is signed by Domenico. A large number of sheets belonging to this series have been compiled by J. Byam Shaw, who notes that the subjects are clearly reminiscent of Giamibattista´s etchings, "Scherzi di Fantasia." This and the next two sheets are close to the group; although they deal with single figures, there is agreement in technique, style and format. The group is dated by George Knox to the early part of Domenico´s career, more exactly c. 1750. He comments that this manner of drawing with pen alone derives from a style development by Giambattista towards the end of the 1740s in the preliminary work for the two series of etchings "Capricci" and "Scherzi di Fantasia" [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 225]
