DescriptionExhibition text: When Fredrik Westin painted his large Amor composition, Rafael and Correggio had a renaissance. Heroic classicism began to face competition from erotic and sweeter motifs. The emphasis on sculptural shapes and subdued colours remained, as in Westin’s composition. It was shown at the national art gallery in 1808 and was acquired by art collector Germund Cederhielm. The painting was later owned by King Karl XV, who donated it to Nationalmuseum.
