DescriptionDescription: Watermark: Letter A Inscribed at lower right in black chalk: "Tiepolo." Numbered in violet ink: 76. Provenance: Prince Charles de Ligne (Bartsch 1794, p. 77, no. 1, "Tiepolo" ; Herzog Albert von Sachsen-Techsen ; Count J.G. de la Gardie ; Gift to the museum in 1973 An oeuvre of eight drawings was compiled by Fiocco in his monograph on Giambattista Crosato and since then Pignatti has attributed another sheet to this artist. in addition, the British Museum has two sheets which an 18th century Venetian collector attributed to Crosato. This sheet admittedly bears a superficial resemblance to the work of Tiepolo, under whose name it was listed with the Prince de Ligne, but there is more cause to note its links with the Zephirus and Flora that Pignatti has identified as by Crosato. Pignatti draws attention to the curly hair and musculature of the figures - features that are definitely similar in our sheet, as is the manner of rendering eyes. Pignatti dates the Zephirus to the Turin epoch, more precisely 1733. Our sheet is no doubt somewhat later, probably a preparatory study for the fresco with the same subject in La Chiesa della Visitazione, Pinerolo, which was done in 1740. [Bjurström, It.
