DescriptionDescription: Laid down. Numbered at lower left in pen and brown ink: i6i, inscribed at lower right in pen and grey ink: "Robusti" Provenance: Prince Charles de Ligne (Bartsch 1794, p. 64, no 4: Tintoretto) ; Herzog Albert von Sachen-Teschen ; Count J.G. De la Gardie (Lugt 2722a) ; Gift to the museum in 1973 This artist´s manner of drawing has beens studied above all by the Tietzes, who have compiled an oeuvre of some eighty numbers. Domenico often worked in oil on paper and characteristic features in this sheet are the figure of Virginia on the left, with its violent motion, and the background figures and architecture, indicated summarily with dots and rapid strokes. There are weaknesses in the drawing, particularly in the perspective shortening of Virginia, but several other examples of this can be found in known works by Domenico. [Bjurström, It.
