Description: Wertmüller painted this self-portrait in 1788, the same year he decided to try his luck in Bordeaux. Perhaps he sensed the revolution approaching and chose a safe and wealthy clientele in the city of wine. He gave the portrait to his niece, Charlotta Sparre, whose son later donated it to the museum.
