DescriptionDescription: The portrait of Marie-Antoinette with her children in the Trianon park was her gift to Gustav III, who had chosen the artist himself – his way of launching Wertmüller in Paris. Shown at the Salon in 1785, the painting was not well received. The subject exclaimed, “What, is that supposed to be me?” According to the critics, a queen could not be shown with her head on one side. Wertmüller had to adjust the portrait before it was shipped to Sweden.
