DescriptionExhibition text: David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl dominated painting in Sweden during the second half of the 17th century. In this self-portrait, he sits at an easel. The artist is surrounded by two female personifications. On the right Pictura, painting, with a palette. On the left Inventio, who represents the thoughts behind the artwork. The Latin text on her paper is about the highest purpose of art at that time – to “Paint the Immortal Glory of Sovereignty”.
