Beskrivning: Jacques-Antoine-Marie Lemoine var även pastellmålare och tecknare, något som säkert också påverkade honom som miniatyrist i Halls efterföljd. Detta kan man lägga märke till i självporträttet samt framställningen av hustrun. De utfördes under perioden 1793–95 och i synnerhet framställningen av konstnärens hustru präglas i hög grad av revolutionsårens mode. I självporträttet har Lemoine tydligt visat hur han använde akvarellen på ett ovanligt fritt sätt med flödiga penseldrag samtidigt som förhöjningar i vitt gav samma levande accenter som i pastellmåleriet. Konstnärens produktion, som genomgående kännetecknas av hög kvalité, var troligen förhållandevis liten.

Beskrivning: Jacques-Antoine-Marie Lemoine was also a pastellist and graphic artist, which surely influenced his work as a miniaturist, following Hall. This can be seen in his self-portrait and his depiction of his wife. They were produced 1793–95, with the picture of his wife being especially influenced by the fashions of the revolutionary age. In his self-portrait, Lemoine clearly shows his unusually free use of watercolours, with flowing brushstrokes and highlights in white that produced vibrant accents, as in pastel paintings. The artist’s body of work, which is of consistently high quality, was probably relatively small.
