DescriptionDescription: In Greek mythology, satyrs were forest and mountain creatures with features of both goat and man. They were depicted with hooves, hairy legs, a tail and – like here – horns. Satyrs were libidinous and fond of drinking, dancing and music. The satyr’s reed pipe was commonly accepted as a phallic symbol. Jordaens used the old man, who was the model for the satyr, in several works.
