DescriptionDescription: Lined. Inscribed in pen and ink on an added strip of paper at bottom: "Gio Giuaseppe del Sole Bolognese". Numbered in pen and black ink at lower right: 1118 (Sparre). Inscribed in pen and black ink on the old mount: "Jesan Joseph del Sole né a Boulogne, eut pour maitre Francois Albane et puis Pasinelli a travaillé a fraisque et a l´huile a Parme, Lucques et Verone, et a boulogne le tableau du Maitre Autel a l´eglise della Madre Scalza". Christel Tiem has emphasized Dal Sole´s artistic dependence on the Carracci, referring to a red chalk drawing by Annibale of a Dwarf seen from the back in the Gabinetto delle Stampe, Rome.
