DescriptionDescription: The woman has not been identified, but her attire indicates that she belonged to Antwerp’s wealthy bourgeoisie, which the artist often portrayed. She is wearing a long overgown with matching sleeves over a tight, gold-embroidered bodice and a skirt in precious black silk. The black contrasts against the white cuffs with bobbin lace, the millstone ruff and the lace-trimmed cap. Rings and coral bracelets emphasize the model’s prosperity.
