DescriptionCatalogue raisonné: Description in Flemish paintings C. 1600-C. 1800 III, Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, 2010, cat.no. 15: Technical notes: The support consists of a single piece of plain weave fabric. The painting has been lined and mounted on a non-original stretcher. The ground completely covers the texture of the fabric. The paint layer has been applied opaquely. The trunk of the tree and the sections of the foliage in the background have been painted into the reserve left for them. Some of the foliage has been painted over the sky. The foliage has the same shape as in no. 13. The flesh tones of the woman sitting in the foreground are finely modelled. Details in the animals are in impasto. The highlights have been rendered in impasto using a great deal of white pigment on the brush against a dry surface to create texture (see also nos. 13 and 14). Reserves were left for the trees and the the sky was painted and some foliage added later. The foliage is now brown, probably the result of changes in the green colour. The background has been painted with a sfumato technique. The renderings of the figures and animals are finely detailed with well integrated and modelled blends of tones. The palette comprises red, blue, white and earth pigments as well as the green that has since changed colour. The painting underwent conservation treatment in 1930.
