DescriptionDescription: In the middle of the 1500s, this painting was owned by Gustav Vasa at Gripsholm Castle. It shows: “The one who is without sin may cast the first stone”. The story is about forgiveness and double standards. In Biblical times, adulteresses were punished by stoning. Christ felt that only the one who is free from sin can mete out the punishment. The woman was forgiven, and Christ urged her not to sin anymore.
