DescriptionDescription: This portrait of Ulf Linde is a layered painting of a Renaissance character and alludes to the sitter’s connoisseurship of the work of the Dadaist Marcel Duchamp. Like an artistic snake charmer, Linde plays a recorder, whose notes seem to conjure up both Duchamp’s ready-mades and his articulations of the play of chance, the three dancing threads from the work Stoppages étalon (1913–14). To this already symbol-rich portrait the artist has added his own eye in the lower corner of the frame.
