DescriptionExhibition text: Arvid Fougstedt here portrays five artist friends – all elegantly dressed men belonging to the generation of Swedish artists that came to prominence in the 1910s. Inspired by cubism’s way of breaking up a subject, Fougstedt composed the painting as a collage in which each person has his own individual background. At the top centre, we glimpse two Stockholm churches – Riddarholmskyrkan and Storkyrkan. Isaac Grünewald is standing on the far right. Description: Here Arvid Fougstedt has portrayed a group of artist friends. The five elegantly dressed men all belonged to the generation of artists who made names for themselves in the 1910s. Inspired by the way Cubism broke down its subjects, Fougstedt composed the painting like a collage, giving each of the sitters his own individual background. In the centre, two Stockholm churches can be made out – Riddarholmen Church and Stockholm Cathedral. This portrait was one of the first in the modern collection.
