DescriptionDescription: Bottom right corner cut. Brown stains. Inscribed in pen and black ink at bottom centre of lining: Michel Ange. Numbered in pen and black ink in left corner: 29, and in right corner on paper and on mount: 83 (Sparre). In this and the following number Passarotti imitates Michelangelo´s manner of figure drawing, making extensive use of cross-hatching to define the musculature. According to Borghini, Passarotti made a volume of anatomic studies. He was so successful that his drawings were often mistaken for works by Michelangelo himself. For further hand studies, see drawings in the Brera, Milan, the Teyler Museum, Haarlem, the Albertina, Vienna, the Kunstmuseum, Düsseldorf, the Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart and the Collection of Katherine Baer, New York.
