DescriptionDescription: Man and woman conversing. Laid down. Inscribed at upper centre in pen and brown ink: Stile venetiano. Numbered at lower right in pen and brown ink 927 (Sparre). Inscribed below on the mount in pen and brown ink: Bernard Cerua de Modene Ecolier du Guide, qui estant mort jeune Son maistre qui en fesoit beaucoup d estime dit quil se passeron plusieurs Centaines d'années auant que Modene vi in autre jeune homme qui eui la mesme facilité po.r le dessein. Vidriani fol. 116. dessein qui vient du Prince Dom Liuio Odescalqui. Also inscribed on the ount in pen and brown ink: Cabinet de Crozat (Tessin's hand). This drawing presents a great problem. Stylistically it does not fit into Cervi's oeuvre. On the other hand, the inscription "Stile venetiano" points to the possibility that the drawing might have been produced as an illustration imitating an old and foreign style, and thus was not intended to be representative of the artist's personal style.
