DescriptionDescription: Mystical vision of the washing of the feet of Christ. Numbered in pen and brown ink at lower right: 2359 (Sparre) and 27. This mystic vision is not yet identified. The figure at the lower right who touches the foot of Christ is tonsured and wears religious costume. He participates in a ritual bathing of Christ's feet, presumably in preparation for his entombment. A jug and basin appear at bottom center. One woman clutches a cloth. As the figures washed both Christ's feet, putti fly among the clouds above them. A female, perhaps the Virgin, appears as well at the upper right. The hands on the verso are not immediately identifiable with those of any of the figures on the recto. The attribution of the drawing was first directed to Florence by Nicholas Turner, who suggested the circles of Foggini, Gabbiani or Nasini. However, the more recent (mat note 1999) attribution of Marco Chiarini appears to be the correct one. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no.1147]
