DescriptionDescription: When Stanisław Leszczyński was exiled, he fled to Sweden with his family, landing in Karlskrona in September 1711. On his arrival in Stockholm, he adopted “a blue costume with gilt buttons”. The king is wearing this in the portrait commissioned by Dowager Queen Hedvig Eleonora and painted by Krafft at Karlberg Palace in early October. The result was considered a very good likeness, although Stanisław himself regarded the face as “a little too long”.
