DescriptionDescription: Laid down. Inscribed in pen and brown ink at lower left: "é qu. la fama d´un mortal vi do..." and to the right: "il nostro studio questo die fa...gli nomini in morto". Numbered at lower right: 451 (Sparre). Fame, seated on a celestial globe decorated with stars and the zodiac, is regarding three female personifications of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In the foreground, Time is trying to break his fetters and Envy is biting a child. In the background are statues of Minerva (left) and Hercules (right). The Louvre has a less elaborate version of the composition (inv.no. 1912) as well as a detail study (no. 1911) of a woman eating children, accompanied by a pair of lions and a recumbent woman, the same figure as in the foreground of the final composition.
