DescriptionDescription: Landscape with large mountain. Laid down. Inscribed at lower right in pen and brown ink (on the mount by Tessin): crescentius. Numbered: 527 (Sparre). The attribution to Mola is suggested by Philip Oouncey. The style of the drawing shows obvious parallels with two sheets, in Providence and Lille, both with the same characteristic combination of rapid, nervous lines and a generous wash. The Providence sheet was attributed to Mola by Hans Tietze, the Lille sheet by Hans Tietze, the Lille sheet by John Gere, who compares it with the Rhode Island drawing. There are obvious similarities with Claude's drawing style and all three drawings should be dated to the 1640s. The old (Pio?) inscription attributes the drawing to Crescenzio Onofrio, one of the artists dealt with in Pio's manuscript. Onofrio was a pupil of Dughet and worked in a less dramatic style, close to Grimaldi's. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 783]
