DescriptionDescription: The Baptism of Christ. Laid down. Numbered at lower right in pen and black ink: 51 (cancelled). Inscribed in lower margin in pen and brown ink: Guillielmo Cortese. Cabinet de Crozat. Numbered at lower right: 495 (Sparre). This study is obviously a project for a full-scale altarpiece, although it cannot be linked to a recorded commission. A study for the head of Christ in this composition is in the Gabinetto nazionale delle Stampe, Rome. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 666]
