DescriptionDescription: Study for the figure of St. Marc. Laid down. Inscribed at lower left in pen and black ink: C. Cortese. (Nicola Pio?), numbered in pen and brown ink at lower right: 4 changed into 502 (Sparre). Preparatory study for apse frescoe showing the martyrdom of St. Marco, Rome, 1653-55. Cf preceeding no. A red chalk academy in a somewhat different position, in the Farnesina has been identified by Graf as a possible preparatory study for St. Marc. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 671]
