DescriptionDescription: No watermark. Inscribed at upper right in pen and brown ink: "Cesare presso a gienova rompe il ponte" and on the mount: "Federico Zuccaro" ; Numbered at lower right: 405 (Sparre). Verso: Figure studies. Black chalk. Gere has identified the drawing as a work of Taddeo. It is a study for a maiolica design known in its finished form in a drawing in Lord Leicester´s collection ; furthermore, the black chalk studies on the verso, some of which are for figures on the recto, are in Taddeo´s freest and most masterly style. The style of the inscription is identical with that on the underside of the dish in the Victoria and Albert Museum for which Lord Leicester´s drawing served as the design. [Bjurström, It.
