DescriptionDescription: The old attribution to Tenniers cannot be supported. A Genoan origin has been demonstrated by W.R. Rearick in that he links this drawing with Strozzi, though doubting whether it can be regarded as an original (according to a note on the mount). A stylistic affinity with a drawing in the Philadelphia Museum of Art that Mary Newcome attributes to Giovanni Carlone is the basis for ascribing the present sheet to this artist. There is the same combination of small looped penstrokes and small parallel strokes shading arms and legs. The monumental composition points to a date after the artist's time in Rome, probably in the late 1610s. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 357]
