DescriptionDescription: Listed by Crozat and Tessin as a work of Tintoretto, which Sirén rejected. Exhibited in 1962 under Maganza's name at the suggestion of Terisio Pignatti. In connection with the Venice exhibition, when no specific attribution was given. Ruggeri suggested Giulio Benso. This attribution is very convincing if one accepts Mary Newcomeäs attribution of a "Birth Scene" in the National Gallery of Art, Washington. There is the same style of heavy wash and circular lines depicting the rather stiff figures. Other related drawings are in Palazzo Rosso, Genoa. Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart, Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen, and the Alrbertina, Vienna. At least the last of these has been ascribed traditionally to Benso. [Bjurström, It.
