DescriptionDescription: Laid down. See note to number 249: "[...] 250-254 are clearly designs for the same figure, which may, as suggested by Sirén, be intended to represent Fortune. As Popham has pointed out, a seventh drawing at Chatsworth is certainly for this figure and clearly resembles the present drawing except for the position of the left arm and for the head-dress. Popham expresses some doubt about this and other sheets with the rather surprising attribution to Vanni butt his would seem to be the result of an error when compiling the inventory of 1790, since the sheets had been listed earlier by Tessin under the name of Parmigianino. According to Popham the subject suggest a connection with the "metalpoint series", probably dating from the Bolognese period 1524-30". [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 252]
