DescriptionDescription: Hercules and Omphale. Watermark: Crescents and letter A (close to Heawood 867: Venice 1696). Numbered at lower right in pen and brown ink: 1338 (struck out) and 1311. Verso: Two figure studies. Black chalk. One starting point for studying this artist's style of drawing is provided by the sheets exhibited at Fondazione Cini in 1966, another is thos published in "Arte Veneta" in 1967. Our sheet has the same luminosity as the one in the collection of Janos Scholz. Note the verso figure drawing. Having no wash, it is somewhat different in character but obiously by the same hand. The theme recurs in a painting in Ca' Rezzonico, from about the same time, attributed by Pignatti in 1960 to Gregorio Lazzarini. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 172]
