DescriptionDescription: Af Tintoretto. Ram: svart. T:s skola (Sirén 463). [slut] Beskrivning i Bjurström It. Drawings nr 139: Grieving Virgin. Laid down. Inscribed on the mount at lower right in pen and brown ink: Tintoretto and 1220. (Sparre). This drawing, which cannot be traced back beyond the 1790 inventory, carries an old attribution to Tintoretto. But although its character is clearly Venetia, it seems more like a work from the beginning of the 17th century. Several names have been suggested tentatively: Paolo Farinati (Fiocco), Alessandro Turchi (Scholz), Aliense (Pignatti). The sheet is characterized by nervous, angular contours and a painterly wash. It also has clear likenesses with Presentation in the Temple, Vienna Albertina, which Tietze connects with a sheet by Girolamo Pilotti in the Louvre. Pilotti was a pupil of Palma Giovane.
